Week 7

Sneak Peek of the Week

Week 7: October 10th-October 14th

Hello families,

Reader's Workshop

This week we'll begin working on literacy concepts in our Guided Reading Groups.  Students will work in a small group, of four or five, with me at the "teacher table".  We'll practice reading a book together by pointing to words as we say them.  Also, we'll learn sight words and practice sound spelling (listening to a sound and writing the letter that corresponds).

We'll begin our second Math unit on 2-D shapes on Tuesday.

Please read the long-term learning targets:

1.  I can sort 2-D shapes and explain my thinking.

2.  I can use shapes to create a picture.

3.  I can name, compare and describe shapes based on their attributes (shapes include: circle, square, triangle, rectangle, hexagon, trapezoid).

Reading Buddies

(Last week we were unable to meet with our 3rd grade buddies).

On Friday, we'll meet with our 3rd grade reading buddies!  Kindergarten students will be assigned one or two 3rd grade buddies.  Students will be introduced to their buddy/buddies and practice reading a book together.  Reading buddy time will help us get to know other students at Webster and help build our stamina for reading!

Special Notes:

  • Picture Day is Thursday, October 13th.
  • Webster Walk-a-thon is Friday, October 14th.
  • Fall Conferences will be held on the evening of Tuesday, October 18th and all day on Wednesday, October 19th.  Please find your reminder in your child's folder.
  • No School: October 19th, October 20th, October 21st (Conferences and Teacher Convention dates).

That’s all of the news for now!
