Week 30

Sneak Peek of the Week

Week 30: April 10th-April 14th

Dear Families,

I hope you had a wonderful and restful Spring break! I'm excited to see your child and hear about his/her week.

Literacy Pilot/Reader's Workshop

As you know, we participated in the literacy pilot as Minneapolis Public Schools prepares to select a new literacy curriculum for next year.  As a team, the Kindergarten teachers have decided to continue with Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for the remainder of the school year.  Over the course of the pilot, we found the program to be a great source for Kindergarten readers.  I will continue to send home the weekly literacy newsletters so you can stay informed on what we're working on in Reader's Workshop

In addition, our schedule will now allow for Science with Erin again!  Students will meet with Erin in a smaller group every day for about forty minutes.  When students are not working with Erin, they will be in guided reading groups with me or working on an independent reading task (iRead on the ipad or Read to Self).

As always, please let me know if you have any questions about literacy or changes in our schedule.

This week we'll continue to strengthen our number sense (our fluidity and flexibility with numbers).

Specifically, we'll focus on the following learning targets:

  1. I can show combinations of 10 automatically.
  2. I can add/subtract two numbers.
  3. I can compare and order numbers up to 20 (or beyond).

Special Notes:

  • Thank you for making sure your child turned in his/her permission slip and cost for the trip quickly!  Thank you very much to those of you who included a scholarship donation for students in the classroom.  This is greatly appreciated by the Kindergarten teachers and families!
  • You'll find your child's final map from Spanish in the folder.  Students have been working on geography skills, specially creating a map, with Carissa.

I hope you have a great week! Thank you!
