Week 26

Sneak Peek of the Week

Week 26: March 6th-10th

Dear Families,

A couple weeks back I included details on how to access iRead at home.  If you are having any trouble, please read the following instructions so your child may use this wonderful reasource at home.  If you are still experiencing trouble with accessing iRead, please e-mail me so I can help.

iRead Instructions:

  1. Go To: scholastic.com/iread/familyportal
  2. Click: Login
  3. Type in School Zip Code: 55413.  Type in School: Minneapolis Public Schools.
  4. Click on the iRead box.
  5. Type in username and password (this was sent home on a yellow sheet a few weeks back--if you need another copy, just let me know).  Children should be able to type their username and password independently.
Please keep in mind that your child should be working on this program indepedently.  The suggested time is 10-15 minutes.  Although children should be working on the program indepedently, I encourage you to see what kinds of activities he/she is working on.  This will give you insight on the work we are doing in the classroom and may give you ideas on how to support your child at home with literacy.

Reader's Workshop

This week we'll begin our next unit of study in the literacy pilot.  Please continue to read and utilize the literacy newsletter sent home each week.  As always, please let me know if you have any questions about the literacy content.

As you know, we're learning about 3D shapes in Math.  If you're looking for games for your child to work on at home, here are a couple that address the standards we're working on:

2D and 3D shapes: http://more2.starfall.com/m/math/geometry-content/load.htm?d=demo&n=enviro-shapes&y=1&

Special Notes:

  • We have another All School Meeting on Friday, March 10th.  You should have seen a permission slip come home with your child on Thursday.  Please read the information on the sheet and return it by Wednesday (if your child is interested in sharing a talent/skill).

That's all the news for now!
