A bit about me… I am the youngest of 10 children and have 11 nieces and nephews. What is unique about my family is that seven of my siblings are adopted and have different ethnicities and cultures. Diversity is important to me and I love learning about cultures around the world. I enjoy traveling and exploring. I speak Spanish as a second language, have been learning Brazilian Portuguese, and know a little Swedish. My hobbies include reading, salsa dancing, hiking, camping, language exchange, and running 5ks.

I believe in… having fun and enjoying life everyday...It’s good to take one day at a time...I value equity and diversity...Relationships are important...Each person has a story...

My education journey… In high school, I volunteered as an afterschool tutor in an elementary school. In college, I volunteered as a tutor in an afterschool program for Native American students. I also was a program assistant for students with disabilities at a residential program. After college, I was a Parent Child Advocate for Head Start. These experiences kept me interested in education, so when I learned about the profession of School Social Work, it seemed like a natural fit for me blending my passions. I had my graduate social work internship in an elementary school and then I knew I wanted to be a School Social Worker.

Books… I love reading books! Ever since I was little, people would tell me I always had a book in hand. Some of my favorite books a child were: The Little Engine that Could, The Velveteen Rabbit, and the Little Red Caboose. Currently I am in a book club and we read a variety of novels.

Stories to tell… Falling off a donkey while riding up a volcano in Guatemala, study abroad experiences, camping trips, meeting relatives from Finland and Norway
