Week 38 and 39

Sneak Peek of the Week

Week 38 and 39: June 5th-14th

Dear Families,

Wow, what a year!  To better state that, what a fantastic year!  We have covered a lot of academic material and participated in many fun and exciting projects this year.  We developed crucial skills in Kindergarten that are needed for first grade.  We made many new freiends along the way, too!

Each of your children has brought joy and happiness into Room 114 this year.  I feel fortunate to have your child in my classroom this year!

It has been my pleasure getting to know not only your child, but you as well.  As you know, having parental support and open communication is an essential part of a successful school year.  Thank you for all of your support and efforts to make our year so fulfilling and memorable.

As your child transitions from Kindergarten to first grade, there are important things you can do to help him/her succeed:

  • Read to and listen to your child read
  • Ask questions, discuss characters and make text-to-self connections as you read together
  • Explore different ways to incorporate reading into your child's daily life (read a recipe to bake, read a map to find a destinations or read directions for building a toy).
  • Look for opportunities to explore plants and animals around your neighborhood--Kindergarteners learned how to think and act as Scientists this year!
  • Practice addition and subtraction story problems to help your child develop a sense of solving problem independently
  • Encourage your child to write often.  Writing stories, letter and journal entries are great ways to get thoughts organized and put onto paper.  Students truly became authors and illustrators this year!

Thank you again for a wonderful school year!  I hope you have a happy and healthy summer!

See you in the fall!
