Week 35

Sneak Peek of the Week

Week 35: May 15th-19th

Dear Families,

Last week, Kindergarteners earned outside Choice Time.  We had a lot of fun playing together as a class!  We even had a Room 114 race, you can ask your child about it. : )  Many children chose to write and draw with sidewalk chalk.  Not surprisingly, we went through my chalk pretty quickly.  The kids of Room 114 would love it if you would donate sidewalk chalk so we can continue this fun until the end of the year!  Fingers crossed that this beautiful, sunny weather continues.

Literacy

This week we'll continue to work on literacy goals (see paper newsletter).  In addition, I will begin spring assessments during our Reader's Workshop.  Your child will read with me, one-on-one, so I may determine his/her growth in literacy.  The results of the assessment will be viewed in your child's end of the year progress report.  You will receive your child's report in June.

Math

We'll continue to work on number sense routines, solving story problems (with addition and subtraction) and counting.

Our focus on Dreambox will be: Doubles and Near Doubles.  Students will build and identify numbers from 1-20 (or beyond) that are grouped as doubles and near doubles.
