Week 33

Sneak Peek of the Week

Week 33: May 1st-5th

Dear Families,

It's getting to be that time of year when we are running low on supplies.  If you are able, I would very much appreciate any of the following items that you can donate to our classroom:

  • Disinfecting wipes (The Up & Up brand at Target tends to be less expensive but any brand works!)
  • Colored pencils
  • Paper towel

Thank you so much!

Dream Box

A couple weeks ago, I sent home login information about Dream Box.  Dream Box is an adaptive, interactive mathematics program that we utilize in Math Workshop.  Please let me know if you would like more information about this program, how to use it at home or any other aspects you would like me to clarify.

Math

This week in math we are specifically focusing on:

  1. Identifing a missing addend (for example, 6 + __ = 10) and discussing how we reach the answer (drawing a picture, using our fingers, using a known fact: "I know 10-6=4, so 6 +4 must equal 10).
  2. Solving addition and subtraction story problems.
  3. Using the 100 Chart to discover number relationship (counting forward and backwards by 1s,2s, 5s, 10s)

Reader's Workshop

Please continue to read the literacy newsletter placed in your child's folder each week!  In the newsletter you'll find the week's topic, letter sound focus, high frequency words and ideas for how you can extend the content at home.

Special Notes:

  • Last week we went to the Children's Theater to watch A Year with Frog and Toad.  We had a blast making connections between the performance and our readings of Frog and Toad.  Children engaged in discussions about the story elements (setting, characters and plot).
  • Friday, May 12th will be our last day to check out a library book.  Please help your child turn in his/her book every Thursday so he/she can check out a new book each week.

That's all the news for now!

Thank you,

Diana
