Week 25

Sneak Peek of the Week

Week 25: February 27th-March 3rd

Dear Families,

This is our last week of completing reading stamina charts.  You should have seen the final yellow sheet come home on Friday.  If you did not, please let me know and I can give you a second copy.  Children that work on their reading stamina will play basketball with Trent Tucker on Friday.

Math

Last week we began our study of 3D shapes.  Specifically, we focused on sorting 2D and 3D shapes.  We made many observations of the different shapes and concluded that: "2D shapes are flat and 3D shapes are fat".  This week we'll focus on the attributes of a sphere, cone, cube and cylinder.  You can support your child's understading of 3D shapes at home by going on a shape hunt.  Look for 3D shapes around your home/neighboorhood/community and discuss their attributes.

Literacy

Please let me know if you are having any trouble accessing iRead at home.  Your child's username/password went home last week.  Please be sure your child is working on iRead independently so the intruction is tailored appropriately to his/her needs.

Special Notes:

  • As you know, we are going to the Orchestra Hall on Thursday, March 2nd.  If your child has not returned his/her permission slip, you'll find a third notice in the folder.  Please keep in mind, children must have a signed permission slip to attend the field trip.  Please let me know if you have any questions about the field trip.
  • On Tuesday we'll welcome representatives from the Minnesota Timberwolves to Webster to read with us.
  • Game night is cancelled this week.
  • As you know, we wrapped up Unit 4 in math last week.  You'll find the Unit 4 journal pages, given by the district, in your child's folder on the "Keep at Home" side.  You may use this resource to work on math concepts at home.

That's the news for now!
