Week 12

Sneak Peek of the Week

Week 12: November 14th-November 18th

Dear Families,

Here's what we're up to this week in Room 114!

Math

Last week we concluded our study of 2-D shapes.  This doesn't mean we're done learning about shapes, we'll return to geometry in a few months when we learn about 3-D shapes!  You will find your child's assessment of 2-D shapes in his/her folder.  You may use this assessment to help guide conversations about shapes and patterns at home!  As always, please let me know if you have any questions.

This week we'll begin our next Unit in Math: Counting Collections and Number Relationships.  In this Unit, students will explore relationships between quantities and whole numbers.  Also, we'll develop and practice counting strategies.

Here are our long-term learning targets:

  1. I can represent numbers up to 20 (or higher) in many different ways.
  2. I can count forward from any number up to 10 (or higher).
  3. I can accurately count to solve problems.
  4. I can find a number that is 1 more or 1 less than a given number.
  5. I can compare and order whole numbers, with and without objects, from 0 to 20 (or higher).

Special Notes:

  • Thank you so much for your generous donations for our sock puppets!  We had a blast using the materials to begin working on this project.  Students will continue to work on their sock puppets this week in the Project Lab.  We have plenty of materials so no need to send in more! Thank you again for your participation and support in this project.
  • The Kindergarten Team has not yet chosen a date for our sock puppet play.  We will keep you posted once the date is decided!
  • School picture retake day is Monday, November 14th.  If your child is participating in retakes, please send in the original pictures on or before November 14th.
  • Family Involvement Day is this Thursday, November 17th!  A flyer went home on Friday with details.  You are invited to join Ginger in the morning for a light breakfast then meet us in the library for reading time.
  • There is no school on Wednesday, November 23rd through Friday, November 25th in observation of Thanksgiving.
