Week 10

Sneak Peek of the Week

Week 10: October 31st-November 4th

Hello families,

Wow!  Can you please we're entering our 10th week of school?  Kindergarten students are truly embracing their classroom routines along with their weekly classroom job.

Writer's Workshop

Last week in Writer's Workshop, students learned how to use the writing folder and how to come up with story ideas (Heart map).  Ask your child what she/he wrote in the Heart map!

We'll continue to get familiar with the format and routines of Writer's Workshop by writing about a time we demonstrated leadership and being a good friend at school.

Math
Students are now very familiar with the following shapes: square, triangle, oval, rhombus, trapezoid, rectangle and hexagon.  Also, we're able to compare and contrast shapes by looking at their features (sides and corners).  This week in Math we'll continue to explore, sort and discuss shapes.

If you are looking for ways to help your child with geometry at home, here are some online resources that will reinforce and strengthen your child's practice with 2-D shapes:

  5. Pattern match (review):  https://www.turtlediary.com/game/pattern-match.html

In addition, you can help your child go on a "Shape Hunt" by looking for and recording shapes around your home and/or community.

Special Notes:

  • As you know from the flyer sent home last week, we will not dress up or bring candy to school in recognition of Halloween.  Students are engaged in educational fall activities in Literacy Lab and Project Lab such as learning about seeds and changing seasons.
  • Last week you received your child's Emergency Contact form.  If you have not returned it, please return it to me or the office as soon as possible.  The forms are kept privately in the office in case of an emergency.
  • There is no school on  Thursday, November 3rd and Friday, November 4th.
  • Please keep in mind that our library books are due back at the end of the week on Thursday.  This gives us time to check in books so your child may check out a new book on Friday.  Since this is a short week, your child may keep his/her book at home until next Thursday (November 10th).  If you child does not return the library book, he/she can not check out a new book until the following Friday.  Please contact me if you have any questions about our library book check-out system.
  • As the weather gets cooler, please keep in mind that we will try to go outside everyday for morning play break and recess.  It is important to send your child to school in weather-appropriate clothing each day.  If you are in need of any cold weather items for your child, please contact me.

Thank you!
