A bit about me . . . Hello! My name is Ms. Kara van Wyk and I am excited to be the art teacher at the new Webster Community School.  I've been teaching elementary art with Minneapolis since 2009.

As well as teaching, I have been a professional artist since 1993.  I graduated from St. Olaf Collage with a degree in visual art and a license to teach art k-12. My husband Malcom Potek and I have a glass studio, potekglass, in NE Minneapolis. We work with molds and colored glass that we put in place while still cool, then melt them together. This is called kiln-formed glass.  I am also a painter and enjoy painting on the glass using special glass paints.  Outside of glass, I am currently working on a children’s book about a character named Kitty Cow.

At home, I have 2 kids, (17 years and 12 years), 1 cat, (3 years old), and nine fish, (age unknown). I live in NE Minneapolis, about 2 miles away.  I’ll be walking or biking to work most days.

I look forward to meeting everyone for the 2015-16 school year!
